Vocab Terms Entry 1

 These are vocab terms 1-20:


  1. Additive Color: A color created by mixing lighter colors, mainly red, green, and blue (see RBG color); other colors are added to black to become more white
  2. Subtractive Color: A color created by wavelengths being absorbed or reflected (see CMYK color); added to white do become more black
  3. Color Wheel: A circular visual representation of (usually) 12 main colors, used to show relationships between colors
  4. Complementary Colors: Opposite hues on the color wheel that usually work well together
  5. Analogous Colors: Hues sitting next to each other on the color wheel, usually fit into a visually similar group 
  6. Triadic Colors: Three hues spaced evenly apart in a triangle pattern on the color wheel that work well together
  7. CMYK Color: Colors made up of varying amounts of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black; used for printing color pieces
  8. RBG Color: Colors made up of varying amounts of red, green, and blue; values of each fall between 0 and 255; used more for digital projects and products
  9. Cool/Warm Colors: Cool colors are blue, purple, and green (seen as less energetic); warm colors are red, orange, and yellow (seen as more energetic)
  10. Hue: A description of how similar a color is to one of the 12 colors on the color wheel
  11. Saturation: A description of how intense a hue is
  12. Luminance/Value: How "bright" or "dark" a color is
  13. Grayscale: A format made up of only shades of black to white and those in between
  14. Monochromatic: A range of hues relating to only one color (ie: multiple shades of orange)
  15. Tint: A mixture of a color and white
  16. Shade: A mixture of a color and black
  17. Tone: A mixture of a color and gray
  18. 1-Dimensional: Having only one dimensional property to it (length, ie: a line)
  19. 2-Dimensional: Having two dimensional properties to it (length and width, ie: a square)
  20. 3-Dimensional: Having three dimensional properties to it (length, width, and depth, ie: a cube)
