Welcome to my DAT capstone blog, where I will be posting tidbits on posts or media I find interesting or inspiring related to my capstone project. Documentaries done almost completely virtually have rarely been done before, so any inspiration helps. 


Note to the instructor: sorry for posting so many entries in such a short period of time; I have been overwhelmed lately between my internship, working nearly 40 hours a week at Target, and other school work. It has been hard to keep track of assignments and this slipped by! I will try to update at a more regular pace from now on.

Recently I watched a documentary on YouTube about Minecraft (the game I'm using as a platform for my project) and its impact on the YouTube community. It was titled "The History of Minecraft on YouTube" and found on a channel called KwebeecCorner. It runs at 2:19:36 in length. You can find it here . I didn't search for this video, I happened to see it on my suggested and it caught my eye because I've been personally invested in Minecraft gaming videos on YouTube in particular. Not only have I uploaded my own, but I've watched a lot of the personalities mentioned in this video for almost a decade. The subject matter of this video was near and dear to my heart, which is perhaps why I enjoyed it so much. The format of the video was to divide by year, organizing each one by a certain theme and spending a decent chunk of time on each one. Blog Post #4: 3/17

I recently read an article about documentaries in 2020, specifically about gaming. They talk about several different ones, and how important these are to video game culture. Reading this both helped me understand what aspects of the documentary are important and helped me feel good about the theme of the film. It was encouraging to read about successful and "feel-good" documentaries and imagining that ours can be in that group of being beneficial to video game culture. One of the things that stuck out to me in this article was the discussion about timing. This is timing not in the sense of documentary length, but timing in the real world. A lot of projects don't get off the ground because they're about things audiences wouldn't care about decades later, which means the relevance of a subject is important.
